Selenite is a crystalline variety of gypsum, calcium sulphate at Mohs 2-2.5, formed in evaporative sedimentary environments where mineral-rich waters deposit fine fibrous layers that give the stone its white body and silky lustre. The name honours Selene, the Greek moon goddess, and thin Selenite slabs served as window panes in ancient Mesopotamia and Rome. The seven accent stones are an assortment of mixed natural stones in the traditional chakra colours. Morocco is the primary commercial source for Selenite, with deposits also in Mexico, the USA, Poland, and Australia.
