Rose Quartz is a member of the Quartz family, silicon dioxide with a Mohs hardness of 7 and a trigonal crystal system. Its pink colour comes from trace titanium, iron, or manganese, or from microscopic pink fibre inclusions. It occurs mainly as massive rose quartz coloured by these inclusions, with rarer clear crystals coloured by trace elements; cut as a cabochon, star rose quartz can show a six-rayed asterism. It is a natural, untreated material. It carries one of the market's strongest historical love-stone associations, appearing in ancient Egyptian cosmetic contexts and Roman burial sites.
