Geological Information
Flower Agate is a chalcedony variety of the Quartz family, silicon dioxide with a Mohs hardness of 7 and a trigonal system. Opaque pink chalcedony has crystallised into three-dimensional plume formations within a translucent white to cream matrix, and cross-sections reveal the flower-like structures in full. It is a natural, untreated material and a recent discovery, entering the international market around 2018. Origins: Madagascar is the only significant commercial source.
