Tiger Eye is a chalcedony variety from the quartz family, silicon dioxide, with a Mohs hardness of 7 and a trigonal crystal system, formed as a pseudomorph after crocidolite in which silica gradually replaces the original fibres while preserving their parallel alignment. That parallel fibre structure produces the chatoyancy, the silky moving light band known as the cat's eye effect, and its golden-brown colour comes from iron staining. The asbestos-replacement process is complete, so the material is fully silicified and safe to handle. Tiger Eye was worn by Roman soldiers as a protective talisman and has been used in traditional practices across parts of Asia and Africa. This tower form is also sold as an Obelisk or a Point, all describing the same faceted, single-terminated cut.
