Blue Kyanite with Ruby Worry Stone cut to an oval with a thumb hollow across one face. The ground is a deep steel blue to near-black, streaked along its length with the bladed fibrous structure kyanite forms in, and set into it are irregular patches of dull opaque red where ruby corundum has grown through the same rock. The polish takes differently across the two minerals, which is a direct consequence of how far apart they sit in hardness.

Kyanite is traditionally associated with evenness and with clear speech, and it is one of the very few stones consistently described as neither accumulating nor needing energetic clearing. The ruby adds a warmer note that the plain blue material lacks. It is commonly carried, held during practice, or kept somewhere it will be picked up, with the red patches differing in size and placement on every piece.

Geological Information
Blue Kyanite is an aluminium silicate of the kyanite family, crystallising in the triclinic system, and it has one of the most unusual physical properties of any common mineral: its hardness varies with direction, roughly 4.5 measured along the length of a crystal and 6.5 to 7 across it. That anisotropic hardness is physically demonstrable and is a key identifier. The blue comes from iron impurities and ranges from pale grey-blue to vivid cornflower. Kyanite forms as elongated bladed crystals with a striated surface, and in this material ruby corundum has crystallised within the same host rock, adding opaque red patches; corundum sits at Mohs 9, which is why the two take polish differently. The name comes from the Greek kyanos, meaning blue, and the stone appears in some Tibetan and Himalayan traditions. Commercial material comes from Brazil, Nepal, Tibet, the USA, Kenya and India.
