Black Onyx Worry Stone - 1.5-1.75 inch

Twelve stones, and the pale banding still shows through on a few
$4.95

Product Description

Black Onyx Worry Stone cut to a smooth oval with a thumb hollow across one face. Most pieces run a deep, even black with a high glassy polish, and some carry the pale banding of the underlying chalcedony still visible through the colour, showing as cream or white sweeps across the darker ground. The stone is cool to the touch and holds a mirror-clean surface where the black is solid.

Onyx is traditionally used for protection and for steadiness under pressure, and has one of the longest continuous records of any black stone, running through Greek, Roman, Mesopotamian and Egyptian use. It is commonly carried as a pocket stone, held during a stressful moment, or kept somewhere it will be reached for without thinking. Where the natural banding shows faintly through the black, it reads as a mark of the stone beneath rather than a flaw.

Geological Information
Black Onyx is a banded chalcedony variety within the quartz family, silicon dioxide crystallising in the trigonal system at Mohs 7. Almost all commercial black onyx is dyed: the natural material is a grey or banded chalcedony, and the deep black is produced by a sugar-acid or iron nitrate treatment standardised in the Idar-Oberstein agate trade in Germany from the nineteenth century onward. That treatment is stable, permanent and entirely industry-standard rather than a substitute or a shortcut, and where the underlying banding remains faintly visible it is evidence of the natural stone beneath rather than a fault in the process. Onyx has been carved into cameos, intaglios and amulets since antiquity, and the black variety specifically appears in European mourning jewellery and in protective talismans across many traditions. Brazil is the primary source, with further material from India and from Idar-Oberstein historically.

AuturaSol Standard
Each natural stone is selected for its authenticity, geological integrity, and energetic clarity. Natural variations in colour, structure, inclusions, and surface features are inherent to geological materials and contribute to the individuality of each piece. Any known treatments, enhancements, stabilization, or man-made characteristics are clearly disclosed within the product information where applicable. Every piece is inspected and photographed to reflect its true character; however, lighting conditions, screen settings, and natural variation may cause slight differences in appearance. If you have any questions about a piece before completing your purchase, we're always here to help. Where authenticity meets beauty, we tell you exactly what you're holding.
