The blue runs deep and saturated, close to ink on the darker pieces and softening to a mid-cobalt on others, with pale cream and white banding showing through where the underlying calcite was less absorbent. The polish is high and glassy, and the shape and indentation stay consistent across the batch while the depth of colour does not.

Blue onyx is traditionally used for calm and for clear expression, and its appeal is largely the colour, which is more saturated than most natural blue stones at this price. The blue is produced by a dye treatment applied to pale calcite, with intensity and tone varying according to the process and the source material, and the treatment is the industry standard for this material with generally stable results.
