Rhodochrosite Worry Stone - 1.5 inch

Rhodochrosite Worry Stone cut to a small oval with a thumb hollow across one face. The colour runs from a dusty rose through to deeper brick pink, banded with cream and pale grey in concentric arcs that follow the growth of the original mass, so the cut catches those rings at its own particular point. The polish is high and the surface is smooth with a slight softness under a thumb.

Rhodochrosite is traditionally associated with warmth toward oneself and with recovering confidence after a setback, and it carries a genuine cultural history rather than a modern attribution. Geological Information
Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate crystallising in the trigonal system at Mohs 3.5 to 4, its pink to deep rose red colour coming directly from the manganese content. The concentric pink and white banding visible in polished material is among the most recognisable patterns in retail crystals, formed as the mineral was deposited in successive layers around a growth point. The name comes from the Greek rhodon, rose, and chros, colour. Material from the Capillitas mine in Argentina is among the most prized, and it carries a documented cultural history: the Inca called rhodochrosite Inca Rose and held it to be the blood of former rulers turned to stone, with the Spanish later finding deposits in abandoned Inca silver mines. Commercial material comes from Argentina, South Africa, Colorado in the USA, Peru and China.
