Geological Information
Rose Quartz is a member of the quartz family, silicon dioxide with a Mohs hardness of 7. Its pink colour comes from trace titanium, iron, or manganese, or from microscopic pink fibre inclusions of dumortierite or similar minerals. It occurs in two forms, the common massive rose quartz coloured by fibre inclusions and the rarer clear rose quartz crystals coloured by trace elements, and Star Rose Quartz shows a six-rayed asterism when cut as a cabochon. It was used in ancient Egypt and Rome as a love token. Sources include Brazil, Madagascar, India, South Africa, and the USA.
