The Tiger Eye Heart shifts between honey gold and deep chocolate brown as it moves, with a band of silky light travelling across the surface rather than sitting still on it. That moving band is the whole character of the stone and is best seen with the piece turning slowly under a single light source. The polish is high and the Heart is genuinely small, sitting between two fingers and easy to carry loose. Banding direction and the strength of the light band vary from piece to piece, and some pieces run darker than others.

Geological Information
Tiger Eye, also sold as Golden Tiger Eye, is a chalcedony of the quartz family, specifically a silicon dioxide pseudomorph after crocidolite, at Mohs 7 in the trigonal system. It forms when silica gradually replaces blue crocidolite fibres while preserving their original parallel alignment, and it is that preserved fibre structure that produces the chatoyancy, the silky moving light band commonly called the cat's eye effect. The golden brown body colour develops through oxidation during the replacement process; where oxidation remains incomplete, the material stays blue-grey and is sold as Hawk's Eye. The asbestos replacement is complete in finished material, so Tiger Eye is safe to handle, with the crocidolite fully converted to silica. The material is natural and requires no treatment. Roman soldiers carried it as a protective talisman, and it appears in traditional medicine across parts of Asia and Africa. Sources include South Africa, India, Australia, the USA, and Brazil.
