Geological Information
This sphere is a man - made resin composite in which fragments of natural Tiger Eye and metallic inclusions are suspended in cured resin, then polished to a round. Tiger Eye itself is a chalcedony variety of the quartz family, silicon dioxide, formed by pseudomorphism in which silica gradually replaced fibres of crocidolite while preserving their parallel alignment, producing the silky chatoyant light band. That replacement is complete, so the Tiger Eye is fully silica and safe to handle. The Tiger Eye component is sourced chiefly from South Africa; the resin sphere itself is manufactured.
